Generac Leads or Your Own: How Naples Generator Dealers Should Plan the Months After Hurricane Season
Generac gives its residential dealers a listing on its Where to Buy site and pre-qualified leads through PowerPlay, and a Naples dealer should use both. The dealers who stay busy after a quiet season also own their search, and the months between December and June 1 are when that gets built.
The install happens in a day. The search work that brings the call takes months.
In one paragraph
Generator dealer marketing is how a home standby generator dealer gets found and chosen by homeowners: manufacturer programs such as Generac's dealer locator and PowerPlay leads, plus the dealer's own website, Google Business Profile and reviews. In Southwest Florida the work is timed to the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 to November 30 (NOAA National Hurricane Center, 2026).
Plan the season
December to June: what a Naples generator dealer works on each month
Pick a month to see the work for it. Every item comes from the plan in this article. It is a starting order, not a promise of results.
- Ask every homeowner you installed for this season for a Google review, while the storm is fresh.
- Update your Business Profile service areas and photos with this season's installs.
- Publish one page on standby generator installation in Collier County, with the permit steps.
- Publish a page on HOA approval, citing Florida Statutes 720.3035.
- Explain load calculations and transfer switches in plain words on your install page.
- Check your Generac dealer locator listing and tier details are current.
- Build a maintenance agreement page for the units already in the ground.
- Add a Lee County page if you work there, with Lee's own permit and fee facts.
- Send your past customers a pre-season service reminder.
- Add town pages with real local proof: installs, permits and photos from that town.
- Answer the questions homeowners asked you last season, one page each.
- Review which pages bring calls, and fix the ones that do not.
- Make the quote request short and fast: name, address, phone, generator interest.
- Post this season's install photos to your Business Profile.
- Line up crews and inventory for May and June demand.
- Run a pre-season maintenance push for existing customers.
- Make sure every page shows your license, service area and response time.
- Check that reviews are still arriving, so the newest one is recent when June 1 comes.

Why do the months after hurricane season decide a generator dealer's next year?
The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks on September 10 (NOAA National Hurricane Center, 2026). Search pages and reviews take months to build, so the work a Naples generator dealer does between December and May decides how visible it is when the next season, and the next outage, arrives.
Generator demand in Southwest Florida does not follow a smooth curve. It jumps after an outage. On the afternoon of October 10, 2024, after Hurricane Milton, the Florida Public Service Commission reported 121,073 of 275,479 Collier County accounts without power, 43.95% (Florida Public Service Commission, 2024).
Those homeowners call someone. The dealer they call is usually the one that already shows up when they search, with reviews that say the crew showed up and the permit got done. A page published the week of a storm has no time to be found before the demand is gone.
That is why the quiet months matter most. Crews have time, homeowners are not panicking, and every page and review added in December is working by June.

What do Generac's dealer tiers give a dealer, and what do they not?
Generac lists its residential dealers on its Where to Buy site, which it says gets more than 660,000 visitors a month, and offers them "pre-qualified consumer leads and sales training through PowerPlay platform" (Generac, 2026). Its dealer tiers tell homeowners how much service a dealer offers, from Select dealers, where not every one installs, up to Premier and Prestige (Generac dealer tiers, 2026).
The tiers are defined by service, not by marketing. Generac says Premier dealers "employ at least four factory-trained service technicians," Elite Plus dealers employ "at least two factory-trained technicians with expertise in liquid-cooled generators," and Elite dealers have "at least one factory-trained technician on staff" (Generac dealer tiers, 2026).
| Tier | What Generac says |
|---|---|
| Prestige (new in 2025) | Generac's top tier, meeting the highest standards for certification, customer satisfaction and service |
| Premier | Generac as a primary business focus, at least four factory-trained service technicians |
| Elite Plus | At least two factory-trained technicians with liquid-cooled generator expertise, 24/7 emergency support |
| Elite | Installation and basic service, at least one factory-trained technician |
| Select | Authorized to sell home standby and portable generators; not every Select dealer installs and services |
What the two Generac pages we read do not tell a dealer is how PowerPlay leads are routed or priced. Ask your Generac territory manager before you build a budget around them.
A manufacturer listing also has a limit you cannot change. A homeowner on the dealer locator is shopping for Generac, and sees other Generac dealers next to you. A homeowner who finds your own page has already picked your company.

Should a Naples dealer rely on manufacturer leads or build its own search demand?
Use both, and do not depend on either one alone. Generac's locator and PowerPlay leads cost little to keep and bring buyers already set on Generac. Your own search presence, meaning your website, Google Business Profile and reviews, brings buyers who search for a generator installer near them, and it keeps working for service, maintenance and other brands.
| Question | Generac locator and PowerPlay | Your own search presence |
|---|---|---|
| Who sends the buyer | Generac | Google, Maps, AI answers and referrals |
| What the buyer already chose | The Generac brand | Your company |
| Who else they see | Other Generac dealers | Every installer in the results |
| What you control | Your tier and your listing details | Your pages, profile, photos and reviews |
| What it covers | Generac products | Install, service, maintenance and any brand you carry |
Competition is real in both places. Census counted 191 electrical contracting establishments in Collier County and 318 in Lee County in 2023 (Census County Business Patterns, 2023). Not all of them install generators, but every one of them can.
Our view: treat manufacturer leads as the floor and owned search as the part you build. The floor can change when a program changes. The pages and reviews you build stay yours.

What does Collier County require for a residential generator permit?
Collier County processes a residential generator permit together with the electrical, structural, mechanical, gas piping and storage tank permits, as one combined application. The site plan must meet the county's separation table, the electrical permit needs three copies of the load calculations, and a 10 day spot survey is required after the final inspection (Collier County, 2021).
Collier's submittal requirements are dated June 30, 2021, and they are still the document the county links today. In the county's own words, the application "must be submitted as a combined permit application with all applicable permits" (Collier County, 2021).
| From | Minimum distance |
|---|---|
| Another generator or mechanical air intake | 10 feet |
| Public and private road right-of-way | 10 feet |
| Windows, soffit vents and eaves of the dwelling, shrubs and trees | 5 feet |
| Gas and electrical meters, pool pumps, water softener systems, AC compressors, landscape plantings | 3 feet |
| Rear yard lot line | 10 feet waterfront, 5 feet non-waterfront |
After the final building inspection, the county says "an approved 10 day spot survey is required to verify the locational and separation requirements before the issuance of a certificate of completion" (Collier County, 2021). Homeowners rarely know that step exists. A dealer page that explains it, and builds it into the timeline, answers a question competitors leave open.
Lee County works differently. Its fee schedule, effective April 15, 2026, lists a $50 inspection fee for a self-contained generator (Lee County, 2026). Write a separate page for each county you serve rather than one page that blurs the two.

What does a December to June marketing plan look like month by month?
Start with reviews and the Business Profile in December, while the storm season is fresh. Build permit, HOA and maintenance pages from January to February. Add town pages with real local proof in March, tighten the quote request in April, and run a maintenance push to existing customers in May, so everything is working before June 1.
| Month | Main work |
|---|---|
| December | Review requests from this season's installs; Business Profile service areas and photos; a Collier install and permit page |
| January | An HOA approval page; load calculations and transfer switches explained; dealer locator listing checked |
| February | A maintenance agreement page; a Lee County page if you work there; pre-season reminders to past customers |
| March | Town pages with real installs and photos; one page per common question; fix pages that bring no calls |
| April | A short, fast quote request; new install photos on the profile; crews and inventory lined up |
| May | Maintenance push to existing customers; license, service area and response time on every page; fresh reviews |
The order matters more than the exact month. Reviews come first because they take the longest to build and they show up on the profile, the map results and the dealer's own pages.
The HOA page is worth its own month. Florida law says an association board "may not deny an application for the installation, enhancement, or replacement of hurricane protection" that meets the specifications the board adopted, and its list of hurricane protection includes "exterior fixed generators, fuel storage tanks" (Florida Statutes 720.3035, 2026). Put it on a page: it answers an HOA homeowner's first objection before they raise it.

How should a dealer use outage history without selling fear?
Use outage numbers to explain timing and capacity, not to frighten buyers. A dated, sourced figure, such as the Florida Public Service Commission's Hurricane Milton report showing 227,008 of 504,433 Lee County accounts out on October 10, 2024, tells a homeowner why lead times grow after storms and why planning in winter is easier (Florida Public Service Commission, 2024).
State the source and the date every time. The Milton report is a snapshot from 2:45 PM on October 10, 2024, not a peak, and it showed 3,198,755 accounts without power statewide at that moment (Florida Public Service Commission, 2024).
Recovery numbers are honest context too. Two days later, LCEC said "Over 85,000 customers have been restored in the last 24 Hours," bringing restoration "up to 87%" in its service area (LCEC, 2024). A homeowner deciding on a generator deserves both halves of that story.
What not to write: countdown timers, "the next storm is coming," or claims that a generator is the only way to stay safe. They read as pressure, and homeowners who feel pushed call someone else.
What to write instead: how long installs take in winter compared with after a storm, what the permit and spot survey add to the timeline, and what maintenance keeps a unit ready.

Which pages should a generator dealer's site have before June 1?
Before June 1, a Naples generator dealer site should have a standby generator installation page, a page per county covering permits and fees, an HOA approval page, a maintenance agreement page, a page on load calculations and transfer switches, and town pages with real local installs. Every page should show the license, service area and how to request a quote.
- Installation. What a standby install involves, from site plan to spot survey.
- County permit pages. Collier and Lee each get their own, with their own rules and fees.
- HOA approval. What the association can and cannot refuse under Florida Statutes 720.3035.
- Maintenance. What a service visit covers and how often.
- Load and transfer switches. Whole-home versus essential circuits, in plain words.
- Town pages. Naples, Marco Island, Bonita Springs and Estero, each with installs from that town, not a swapped city name.
Put your license number on every page and link it to the state's MyFloridaLicense.com lookup, so a homeowner can check it in one click.

How should a dealer measure whether owned search is working?
Count calls and quote requests from your website and Google Business Profile each month, separately from manufacturer leads, and compare December to May against the same months last year. Rankings and traffic are signs of progress, but booked installs and maintenance agreements are what pay for the work.
Tag each lead with where it came from when it arrives: Generac locator, PowerPlay, website, Business Profile call, referral. A spreadsheet is enough. Without it, every lead after a storm looks like it came from everywhere at once.
Watch reviews as a number too. A dealer that adds a few genuine reviews every month from December to May will have a recent one at the top when the first June search happens.
Judge the plan in June and July, not in January. Pages built in the quiet months earn their keep when demand returns.

Generac says its residential dealers get a listing on its Where to Buy site, which it says receives more than 660,000 visitors a month, and can receive pre-qualified consumer leads and sales training through its PowerPlay platform (Generac, 2026). Generac's installer program and dealer tier pages do not explain how PowerPlay leads are routed or priced, so ask your territory manager. Dealers also get leads from their own website, Google Business Profile, reviews and referrals, which keep working for service and other brands.

In December, right after the Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30 (NOAA National Hurricane Center, 2026). Reviews, Business Profile updates and new pages take months to build, so work started in winter is working by June 1. A page published the week of a storm has little time to be found before demand passes. Use the quiet months for permit, HOA and maintenance pages, and save May for reminders to existing customers.

Yes. Collier County processes a residential generator permit as a combined application with the electrical, structural, mechanical, gas piping and storage tank permits, and its site plan must meet the county's separation distances (Collier County, 2021). The electrical permit needs three copies of the generator load calculations, and a 10 day spot survey is required after the final inspection before a certificate of completion is issued. Check the county's current form before each job.

Not if the installation meets the association's adopted specifications. Florida Statutes 720.3035 says a board or committee "may not deny an application for the installation, enhancement, or replacement of hurricane protection" that conforms to those specifications, and it lists exterior fixed generators and fuel storage tanks as hurricane protection (Florida Statutes 720.3035, 2026). The association can still set specifications, so get them in writing before you quote.

Technicians and focus. Generac says Premier dealers make Generac a primary business focus and employ at least four factory-trained service technicians, while Elite dealers offer installation and basic service with at least one factory-trained technician (Generac dealer tiers, 2026). Elite Plus sits between them, with at least two technicians trained on liquid-cooled generators. Tell homeowners your tier on your own site, in Generac's words, so they do not have to look it up.

The Florida Public Service Commission's report for 2:45 PM on October 10, 2024 showed 121,073 of 275,479 Collier County accounts without power, 43.95%, and 227,008 of 504,433 Lee County accounts, 45.00% (Florida Public Service Commission, 2024). That is one snapshot, not the peak. Two days later LCEC said restoration in its area had reached 87% (LCEC, 2024). Cite the date and source whenever you use these figures.
